Bear Hug
This is a pet friendly home for one small dog, under 20 pounds. Pets must be pre-approved. An additional non-refundable pet fee is required and is not included in the rental fee. Please call our office for approval and to pay the pet fee. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $500.00 fine.
Only adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.
Bear Hug is the perfect mountain getaway home. Nestled in a quiet community only minutes from downtown Highlands, the property is surrounded by nature so you're in your own little oasis even though you're so close to town.
Great for families with four bedrooms spread out on three floors with two primary bedrooms with an en suite.
The home features a number of gathering spaces for enjoying the mountain lifestyle. The main family room features vaulted ceilings and a wood burning fireplace. The lower level game room has a large screen TV, a pool table and a wet bar. The grand screened-in-porch with woodburning fireplace is the perfect location to gather any time of day. When the perfect weather tempts you outside, gather around the firepit and soak it all in.
A circle driveway, parking court, and carport provide ample room for guest parking. The back yard contains a fenced area for pets but be sure to get pre-approval before you bring your four legged friend.
Marked trails are steps from Bear Hug that run through the Land Preservation which includes a large pond.

Cancellation Policy
In the event of a cancellation by tenant, a reservation canceled between 0-45 days prior to arrival is not eligible to receive a refund. If more than 45 days notice is given, tenant shall receive a refund of all payments made by tenant, less an administrative fee of 10% of the Total Cost of the Reservation.

Fun Fall Weekend. We had a great weekend at Bear Hug. Plenty of room for all four couples. The screen porch with fireplace was incredible. The living room area also has fireplace and we used it all weekend. Then there was the pool table and dart board for fun, too. We had a couple of issues, but Alicen and Joe(maintenance guy) were very responsive and worked to solve them. All in all, a terrific place to get away.

We come to Highlands every summer to escape the heat, enjoy friends and family and this wonderful area of Highlands/ Cashiers. This year we stayed at Bearhug. It has been one of the best homes mainly bc of the proximity to Highlands (2 miles from Main St Highlands) and the great porch. When looking for a rental home in this area, I have quite a specific list of things I look for. Mainly I look for a comfortable outdoor porch area ( comfy seating with sofas/ chairs with cushions, real wood burning fireplace, outdoor grill and outdoor dining for 6-8 people.) I do not want a bunch of hard rockers lined up looking at trees for instance. Bear Hug porch is large, screened on 3 sides with a stone fireplace and tall cathedral ceiling. We spend most of our time on this porch. Very quiet/ private area even though there are neighbors ( you cannot see any neighbors ). Home is well equipped and nicely furnished. We stayed here for 3 weeks and hate to leave. Good wifi connection too. Thank you to the Rent in Highlands agency for immediately answering questions I had and the owners for a great vacation too. We will certainly check the Bear Hug home again for vacancy next year when we return.
